The gig was announced on October 21st, 2022. Muse headlined the 2023 Rock Werchter festival, together with Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Stromae.

The Show

The stage setup was a mix between the regular stage and the festival stage, with the mirrors and the props (including Baph) from the regular setup but the different light rigs, flamethrowers, and smaller b-stage from the festival setup.

Map of the Problematique was played in the rotation slot after Psycho, despite the show being a festival. This also marked the second gig of the European leg where Map of the Problematique was played.

The end of the show was plagued by technical issues. Knights of Cydonia had to be restarted twice due to a technical "meltdown" (according to Dom). After the second restart failed (which forced the band to abandon playing the song), Matt apologised and the band left the stage after being told they had run out of time to finish the set due to the curfew. The band returned a few minutes later however after being given permission to play one last song. They decided to play Showbiz to finish the show, thus marking the first time Showbiz closed a show since 2006 and the second time Knights of Cydonia didn't close a show in the Will of the People era, the last time being in 2022, at the Exeter Cavern private gig. This version of Showbiz, as it was spontaneous, was very raw with multiple errors from both Matt and Dom, showing that the song hadn't been rehearsed in a while. Matt messed up the lyrics for the second verse and his vocal distortion initially kicked in way too early.

Trivia

With Showbiz's unexpected appearance, this marks the first time in a Muse set that all 9 albums were represented.
