John Smith's Stadium

John Smith's Stadium (also known as Kirklees Stadium and formerly named Alfred McAlpine Stadium between 1994 and 2004, and Galpharm Stadium between 2004 and 2012) is a multi-purpose stadium in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, in England. Designed by Populous and built by Alfred McAlpine, it opened in 1994. Upon opening, the stadium only used two stands (the Riverside and Kilner Bank stands), with the third, the "South Stand", opening in december of 1994. The fourth stand (the Panasonic Stand) began construction in 1996 and was completed in 1998. The stadium is named after Heineken's domestic brand, the John Smith's Brewery. It is owned by the Kirklees Metropolitan Council, Huddersfield Town FC and Huddersfield Giants, and is operated by KSDL (Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd.).

As noted above, the stadium's been the home ground to the Huddersfield Town football and the Huddersfield Giants rugby clubs ever since it opened in 1994. Because of that, the stadium held a variety of both football and rugby matches. It was the venue for the Rugby League World Cup in 1995, 2000, 2013 and 2021 and it hosted the 1999 Rugby Union World Cup. In 1999, it hosted a match between England and Sweden at the 2000 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifications. The stadium held its first Premier League game in 2017.

Since 1995, the stadium's also been used as a concert venue. Musical artists who have performed at the stadium include R.E.M., Bon Jovi, Weezer, Green Day and Fall Out Boy, Bryan Adams, Take That and more.
