Description

Revolt it's about inspiring and encouraging people to believe in themselves.[1]

According to Matt, in this track along with Defector, the protagonist of the story takes again control of his life and fights against the dark forces who are trying to control him.[2]

Revolt was an originally a piano song and it took a lot to become a Rock song.[3]

In a french review, Revolt is said to be a "pop" song that sounds like U2's "With or Without You". Matt's voice "sounds strange" and makes "brutal" climbs into falsetto.[4] while according to NME, Revolt is one of their most creative songs; "A two-speed storm built on monumental riffs"[5]

Information

A sample of rioters and a police siren can be heard in the intro of the song. The police siren builds up into a rhythm based synth, on which the song's verses are based. The choruses are faster than the verses.

Live

Revolt was the third true single off of Drones (excluding the promotional singles) and thus had some potential to be played often. It was held back from debuting until the launch of the North American leg of the 2015/2016 Drones 360 World Tour, skipping the 2015 Festival Tour as a result. Interestingly, the band decided to put Reapers and Revolt on rotation to the dismay of many fans. Reapers, a fan favourite since its debut, has taken over its spot in the setlist in nearly all gigs since the December 18th gig.

Lyrics

[VERSE 1] How did we get in so much trouble? Getting out just seems impossible Oppression is persisting I can't fight this brain conditioning Our freedom's just a loan Run by machines and drones

They've got us locked into their sights Soon, they'll control what's left inside Don't try to hide it Don't tell me it's not there

[CHORUS] You've got strength, you've got soul You've felt pain, you've felt love You can grow (you can grow!) You can grow (you can grow!) You can make this world what you want You can revolt You can revolt You can revolt.

[VERSE 2] Can you hear a distant thunder? Taste earth's blood and hunger We live in a toxic jungle Truth is suppressed to mumbles

They'll take away our homes They're just machines and drones Don't try to fight it Don't tell me you can't see

[CHORUS] You've got strength, you've got soul You've felt pain, you've felt love You can grow (you can grow!) You can grow (you can grow!) You can make this world what you want You can revolt You can revolt You can revolt.

[BRIDGE] I can feel your pain I can feel your confusion I can see you're trapped in a maze Let's find a way to escape

[CHORUS] You've got strength, you've got soul You're not afraid, you're not a drone You can grow (you can grow!) You can grow (you can grow!) You can make this world what you want You can revolt You can revolt You can revolt.
