Acoustic.

Additional information

The birth of the White Socks Fetish.

One of the only three Muse songs that have a fade out other two being Showbiz and Bliss. A heavier version, dubbed by fans at the time as "Map of Your Headache", was recorded but remains unreleased to this day. It's possible this could have been intended for release as a Hyper Music b-side, but sadly we have yet to hear this version.

Live

Map of Your Head has never been played live, however it was scheduled for the October 2001 tour alongside Spiral Static, supposedly in a heavier version. The band, for whatever reason, decided not to play the song.[1]

Matt briefly played the riff to Map of Your Head a few times during the Australian leg of the tour and in Orem Utah in 2007.

Surprisingly, the song was listed as a setlist option for both the 2017 Shepherd's Bush Empire and the 2018 La Cigale by-request shows - indicating that the band are interested in playing it live. However, both times it didn't receive enough votes.

Hidden noises

At 1:31-32 and 1:35-36, Bellamy can be heard swallowing. He does it again at 3:04.

At around 3:00-3:01 Bellamy can be heard mumbling "What?" and then taking a deep breath.

Lyrics

I'm sick of feeding my soul

To people who'll never know Just how purposeless and empty they've grown Because their language confuses Like computers refuse to Understand how I'm feeling today

I'm freezing and losing my way I don't need another map of your head I am freezing and losing my way I don't need another map of your head

I saw a liquid control That gives life to a soul I hit my head on it and woke up to know That I was all alone Wearing just socks and a phone Someone screaming like their world might explode

Yeah I'm freezing and losing my way I don't need another map of your head I'm freezing and losing my way I don't want another map of your head

Freezing and losing my way I don't want another map of your head I'm freezing and losing my way I don't need another map of your head Yeah
