London London Stadium
London Stadium, formerly known as Olympic Stadium and The Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, is a multi-purpose outdoor stadium located at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London. The stadium was built for the 2012 London Olympic Games and served as the opening/closing ceremony site and the venue for track and field sports.
The stadium was designed in 2006 by Populous (formerly HOK Sport) with architect Philip Johnson at the helm of the team.
After the Olympics, the stadium hosted many athletic world championships including the 2017 IAAF World Championships in Athletics and the 2017 World Para Athletics Championships. It also hosted several 2015 Rugby World Cup matches and in 2019 it hosted the first US Major League Baseball game in Europe. The stadium is currently rented by UK Athletics and West Ham United F.C..
The stadium was also renovated after the Olympics. The renovations are most noticeable on the roof. The stadium reopened in 2015.
It is the sixth biggest stadium in the UK by capacity, with 66,000 seats. For concerts, the capacity can be raised by nearly 14,000, getting up to 79,990.
Muse played at the stadium two times. The first time it was during the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012 and the second time it was during the Simulation World Tour in 2019.
