The Qmagazine made a preview of Simulation Theory on 23th October, and they said this about the song: "''Get Up And Fight, the track made with Taylor Swift collaborator Shellback, aims to be a radiant pop moment but ends up sounding like a boyband putting on their leather jackets and totally, like, rocking out, yeah?''"
This song, alongside other yet unreleased songs, was leaked in a series of short 20 second video clips showing the vinyl player and fully leaked, a day later, on 7th of November, with the entire album.

What we have's the only thing worth fighting for
And I, I won't let nothing keep us apart
Through these fallouts there is
A truth and pain but through it all
You will always have my heart
I see a change on the horizon
Reasons to be frightened
I know that we can pull through
I am here to tell you
Get up and fight
Get up and fight
I can't do this thing without you
I'm lost in this without you
Get up and fight
We've gotta get up and fight
I can't handle this without you
Can't do it without you
In our heads, a million voices scream and shout
And no one will ever hear a sound
Oh, only you can hush it
And calm the turmoil and the noise
And help me reach the higher ground
I see a change on the horizon
Reasons to be frightened
There's nothing we can't get through
I am here to tell you
To get up and fight
Get up and fight
I can't do this thing without you
I'm lost in this without you
Get up and fight
We've gotta get up and fight
I can't handle this without you
Can't do it without you
Get up and fight
Get up and fight
I can't do it without you
Get up and fight
Get up and fight
I can't do this thing without you
I'm lost in this without you
Get up and fight
We've gotta get up and fight
I can't handle this without you
Can't do it without you
I can't survive without your love in my life
You've gotta get up and fight

Description

The song is reminiscent of Ann-Lee’s 90s hit ‘2 Times’

Matt said on an interview that this song is about his uncle's cancer. Sadly, he passed away shortly after Simulation Theory was released.[1]

Described by Matt as similar to 'Starlight' due it being mellow, when approaching Shellback, he made the song more 'dynamic' and changed the key of the song.[2] Tove Lo came on board through Shellback, who he met in LA, and they talked about doing one song together, thus incorporating her vocals in the album.[3]

Additional information

Tove Lo sings an ad-lib during the verses, along with the line “without your love” in the outro. This line reaches a full-voiced B4, which Matt can’t hit without screaming.[4]

The Qmagazine made a preview of Simulation Theory on 23th October, and they said this about the song: "Get Up And Fight, the track made with Taylor Swift collaborator Shellback, aims to be a radiant pop moment but ends up sounding like a boyband putting on their leather jackets and totally, like, rocking out, yeah?"

This song, alongside other yet unreleased songs, was leaked in a series of short 20 second video clips showing the vinyl player and fully leaked, a day later, on 7th of November, with the entire album.
