Electrix Filter Factory

The Electrix Filter Factory is a 2U standalone rack module stereo/mono analog filter unit with digital control, made by Electrix, an analog outboard effects manufacturer. It's primarily designed for use in electronic music production to be used as an outboard filter effect on drum loops, synth arpeggiations, vocal tracks, etc.

The Filter Factory functions as a stereo filter with a 2-pole slope or a mono filter with a 4-pole slope. The unit's knobs are capable of real-time tweaking of the filters and the unit is MIDI equipped, for recording, tweaking and sequencing various parametres. The unit features "Momentary" buttons, which allow for the effects to be dropped or tapped in, both filter or distortion. The unit's LFO section can generate sweeping effects and other modulations. There's also a tap tempo button to tempo-match the LFO.

There's also a smaller half-rack made by Electrix that acts the same as the Filter Factory; the Filter Queen. It is suitable for DJs and easy-access live use, due to it's smaller size. It still has all the general controls of the Filter Factory.

The Filter Factory is used by Chris Wolstenholme live to replicate the filter sweep sound in Uprising. It was also likely used for City of Delusion live during the Black Holes & Revelations era, allthough no picture material exists and this cannot be fully confirmed.

The unit has also been used by Morgan Nicholls and was seen in his on-stage set up during the Black Holes & Revelations and The Resistance tours. It was most notably used for synth filtering on songs like Knights of Cydonia and Stockholm Syndrome. It was ditched from the setup at the start of The 2nd Law tour, when he removed his racks from the stage completely and instead controlled the filter sweeps via MIDI on his keyboard.
