Dom has an exclusivity contract with Tama drums. He has had many kits several of which have been destroyed during performances. Some of these are:

   * British racing green Starclassic Maple kit with chrome hardware. Its fate is unknown.
   * Brown fade Starclassic Maple kit with chrome hardware. Its fate is unknown.
   * Blue sparkle Starclassic Maple kit with chrome hardware (destroyed at the conclusion of the 2001 Origin of Symmetry / Dead Star EP support tour, as seen on "Hullabaloo" DVD).
   * Marigold sparkle Starclassic Maple kit with chrome hardware (as seen on Hullabaloo Disc 2). Its fate is unknown.
   * Blue sparkle Starclassic Maple kit with chrome hardware (used during 2002 tour and Absolution recording). Its fate is unknown. At least one rack tom survived until 2003 as it was used at the Grouse Lodge sessions of the Absolution recordings.
   * Silver sparkle Starclassic maple kit with chrome hardware (as seen in music videos for Hyper Music, Feeling Good and Plug In Baby and the Making of Absolution DVD). Its fate is unknown.
   * Custom chrome finished Starclassic Maple kit with black nickel hardware (as seen on the Absolution Tour DVD). At least four different instances of this kit have been acquired and subsequently destroyed by the band at the end of live shows, at the conclusion of the Absolution tour, at the 2004 Glastonbury Festival, at Earls Court 2004 and on two other occassions.
   * Crystal Ice (transparent) Starclassic Mirage kit with white hardware. This kit is still in use.

[edit] Drum Sizes

Note these are only his live setups.

   * Early Days period:

Who knows? If anyone can complete this section please do.

   * Origin Of Symmetry period (silver sparkle kit):

22x16 kick, 12x10 tom, 14x14 & 16x16 floors, mainly matching Starclassic Maple 14x5.5 snare

   * Dead Star/In Your World period (blue sparkle kit):

22x16 kick, 12x10 tom, 14x14 & 16x16 floors, mainly Ludwig Black Beauty (smooth shell, imperial lugs) 14x6.5 Supraphonic snare

   * Absolution period (chrome kit):

22x18 kick, 12x8 tom, 14x12 & 16x13 (custom depth) floors, almost exclusively matching Starclassic Maple 14x6.5 snare

   * Black Holes and Revelations period (crystal ice kit):

22x20 kick (with Tama Power Kick bass muffler), 12x9 tom, 14x12 & 16x14 floors, 20x14 gong bass, mainly matching 14x6 Starclassic Mirage and 14x6.5 Tama Power Metal Brass snares.

He also has a number of less prominent snares used for recording and video clips (for example the silver 14x5 DW snare used for recording Fury and Ruled By Secrecy, the Starclassic Maple 14x5.5" that matched his silver sparkle kit. Also a Yamaha Nouveau 14x6.5 brass snare and Yamaha kit were in the Time Is Running Out video clip but it is unclear whether this was a rental instrument or owned by the band/Dom.

For recording he often uses a blue DW kit (on the sessions for Apocalypse Please, Time Is Running Out, The Small Print, Thoughts of A Dying Athiest, Sing For Absolution and Fury as well as various Origin Of Symmetry recordings) Ayotte and Tama drums (on the sessions for Ruled By Secrecy) and has used a Pearl kit prior to his Tama contract. [edit] Dom Is A Lefty

As Dom is left handed he sets his drums up with the hi-hats on his right and floor toms on the left. [edit] Cymbals

Dom uses Zildjian cymbals exclusively and is contracted to endorse the Zildjian company. Note these are only his live setups.

   * Early Days period:

Who knows? If anyone can complete this section please do.

   * Origin of Symmetry and Dead Star/In Your World period:

13" A Custom Hats, 18" & 19" A Custom Crashes, 22" K Custom Ride, 18" FX Oriental China "Trash", 11" FX Oriental "Trash" Splash, 8" A Custom Splash

   * Absolution period:

14" K Custom Special Dry Hats, 18" & 19" A Custom Crashes, 22" K Custom Ride, 18" FX Oriental China "Trash", 11" FX Oriental "Trash" Splash, 8" Avedis Splash, 20" FX Oriental Crash of Doom

   * Black Holes and Revelations period:

14" K Custom Special Dry Hats, 18" K Custom Fast Crash, x" K Dark/K Custom Dark Crash (would someone ask him?), 22" K Custom Medium Ride , 18" FX Oriental China "Trash", 11" FX Oriental "Trash" Splash, 8" Avedis Splash

He often uses a set composed entire of cymbals from the Avedis line for video clips and, on occassion, live.

For recording he uses darker K/K Custom crashes while he often retains the brighter A Customs in live performances for their increased "cut" (K/Cs were used at Live 8). [edit] Hardware

He uses a Tama Iron Cobra Hi-hat stand and used to use Iron Cobra double and single bass drum pedals interchangeably depending on the setlist (few songs require the double, Cave live, for example) but now alternates between DW9000 and Iron Cobra pedals.

His hardware is Tama Roadpro, his throne is a Tama First Chair with back-rest and he has used Zildjian Dennis Chambers signature series drumsticks, Shaw 5BN drumsticks (Hullabaloo) and Promark TX5BNs (Live 8), as well as many others. [edit] Heads

He uses Remo and Aquarian heads. Dom generally uses the classic combination of clear Emperors over clear Ambassadors on his toms, for the kick it's a Super Kick II over Classic Clear or a clear Powerstroke 3 over clear Ambassador or clear Pinstripe over clear Pinstripe, all with a 6" holz ring and Coated Emperor, Controlled Sound or Hi-energy batters on his snare. [edit] Contract Lapse

It is possible that during 2005 Doms endorsement contract with Tama Drums expired as a set of orange and red Ludwig Vistalites (acrylic drums) were used in the USA cut of the Stockholm Syndrome video clip (and another character in the talk show was using Pearl drums). As video clips receive much public exposure it is usually against the terms of a contract to use a competitors product. This would tend to suggest that the Tama contract had reached its conclusion.

A clear set of Vistalites (with a shallower rack tom, 12x8 most likely) is seen on one of the background images [1] of Muse's official site, suggesting that they were used for the recording of Black Holes And Revelations.

As of 2006 he is using Tama Drums' new Starclassic Mirage line [2] (acrylic as opposed to Starclassic Maple) in live situations. These three data would suggest that the contract briefly lapsed in 2005 and during that time Dom developed a tatse for acrylic drums. When Tama released Mirage he renewed his endorsement. [edit] Other Dom info

Recording the introduction to Apocalypse Please, Dom played a drum fill from the Grouse Lodge swimming pool, with a driver from an NS10 speaker used as close mic.

Whilst in the pool area, they decided to have a go at creating a water gong effect by hitting cymbals loads of times while dipping them into water. However, because cymbals have nowhere near the same sustain as an actual gong, the sound decayed as soon as they went into the water, which made the whole activity pointless!

Dom has a large floor fan next to him to keep him cool.
