Portland Moda Center
Moda Center, previously known as Rose Garden and also called the Moda Center at Rose Quarter, is an indoor multi-purpose arena located in Lloyd District, Portland, Oregon, in the sports and entertainment space, known as the Rose Quarter. It is managed by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) and AEG Live and owned by Vulcan Inc., a holding company owned by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. The arena is home to Portland Trail Blazers basketball team of NBA aswell as the Portland Winterhawks hockey team of WHL. Former tennants include Portland Fire of WNBA, Portland Forest Dragons of AFL and Portland Thunder/Steel, also of AFL. The arena opened in 1995 and was designed by architect Ellerbe Becket. Becket recieved some criticism over the design with the arena being listed among the ugliest buildings in Portland. Arena's capacity ranges anywhere between 6,500 and 20,500 depending on the event. Moda Center also features 70 suites and 8 skyboxes with amenities such as private restrooms, catering, designated sound system and a wet bar. The arena also includes a barbecue grill, an executive banquet facility, sports bar and outdoor terraces.
The original name, Rose Garden, was often substituted for Rose Garden Arena, to disambiguate it from the International Rose Test Garden, also located in Portland. The name was chosen to reflect Portland's reputation as the Rose City. In 2013, the Portland Trail Blazers announced a naming right deal with Moda Health, a health insurance company, renaming the arena to Moda Center.
Sporting events held at Moda Center include several NBA and WHL games, a series of PBR Built Ford Tough Series bull riding events, WWE's Raw, Smackdown, Unforgiven and No Mercy events, the UFC 102 event in 2009, the 2009 and 2015 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament games and the 2007 NLL All Star Game. Musical acts who performed at the arena include Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, Coldplay, Electric Light Orchestra, Green Day, Billie Eilish, Metallica, Pantera, Judas Priest and more.
