Information

First music video for the first single, Won't Stand Down, off of the upcoming album. It will be released together with the single itself on January 13th, 2022, at 3PM GMT. ^[1]

Up until a few days before the release, very few teases were shown regarding the music video (only ones being the short snippet on Muse's TikTok^[2], Bellamy teasing with a screenshot of him^[3] and another screenshot from the video posted on Muse's Instagram^[4]), until a longer music video tease was posted by Muse on an Instagram story on January 12th, 24 hours before the release, together with a YouTube premiere link.

The video has been produced by MrMr Films, a production company based in London and Shelter Film, an Ukrainian production company based in Kyiv.

Description

The band appear to have taken a horror-based approach for the music video. The video depicts how one person has all the power in its hand. It features an older actress on a wheelchair, dressed in white, wearing a grotesque Matt Bellamy mask. This character's presumably named "Kueen" in the music video.

Kueen is pushed on small stage infront the "Army", a group of people wearing all-black suits and masks. With the army all lined-up, her hands are hooked up to cables hanging from the air via an electronic controlling device. She then begins to move her hand, controlling the movement of the army with it, while they dance to the song. At the end, due to all the power in her hands, Kueen is transformed into an all-black grim reaper-looking creature with a different mask, the same which was featured in the Instagram filter Muse put out a few days prior to the release.^[5]

Trivia

The masks worn by the Army, portrayed in the video, are similar to the ones worn by 'Nameles Ghouls', masked band members of the Swedish metal band 'Ghost'.
Each member of the Army wears the mysterious monogram pattern on their suit, identical to the one seen on the single cover. The video theme itself also appears on the single cover.
