The 100 Greatest Rock Video's Ever

85 - Time Is Running Out - MUSE

Time is Running Out

Like a Matt Bellamy dream after a night on the cheese, this fat slice of heady millennial rock had the band playing on a boardroom table while some eerie world leaders circulated robotically. Then they get their kit off and stuff. The underlying message was either a) all rulers are repressed egomaniac automations or, more likely, b) we've got a big budget and we're not afraid to spend it on hot models and dance routines.

K! FACT: Time Is Running Out was inspired by Stanley Kubrick's 'Dr. Strangelove', a dark and disturbing comedy about nuclear warfare.

Matt Bellamy speaks: "I found Time Is Running Out one of the most enjoyable videos to make because it felt like we weren't the only performers there. There was a big group of 20 people doing this big synchronized dance manoeuvre around us. It was really impressive watching them do their stuff".

12 - Plug In Baby - MUSE

Plug in Baby

When Matt Bellamy's paramour told him she was going to go and have her tubes looked at, the Muse frontman presumed a trip to the gynaecologist was on the cards. Little did he know that she was actually a freaky android bitch queen, the design of whose snaky innards had clearly been filched wholesale from 'Alien'. And we always thought this was a song about the platonic love one could have for his guitar.

K! FACT: Plug In Baby started life as a quiet, slow song. "It was supposed to be much more mellow", says Matt Bellamy. "Gradually it evolved into a full-on rock track"
