MATT BELLAMY (Vocals): "It's going to be quite a mellow summer for us, really. We'll be rehearsing a bit and talking about song ideas but it won't be until after V Festival that we start doing any work on the new album. With the stress levels of touring for years and years it takes a while to wind down when you have nothing to do, so when you eventually relax it's quite a nice feeling"

"Yeah, I wanted to do a nice outdoor festival in Ireland because the last time we played there, at the Oxegen Festival, it rained contianually. We'll be playing to 20,000 people, so it's not like it's a warm up for V, it'll be a proper show. And then that's it for the year"

"That's a question that applies to the whole idea of being in a band. We have a more natural desire to please a crowd than perhaps certain other bands: if I was watching us I'd wanna see us play the riff at the end of Knights of Cydonia every time, so there's no way that's ever gonna be dropped from the set. What pleases us tends to please the fans, and I can't understand why any band wouldn't want to be making a festival crowd happy"

"My mum has moved back to Devon now, and I've got a place down there, not too far from where Chris [Wolstenholme, bassist] lives, so I've been going back there a bit for the first time in years. We're thinking of doing some work down there, actually, going back to our roots. It's quite comical when the three of us drive around together, checking out all the old places we used to hang out in Teignmouth and how different we feel now but also how in some was we feel the same as when we were young."

How's summer 2008 looking for you?

MATT BELLAMY (Vocals): "It's going to be quite a mellow summer for us, really. We'll be rehearsing a bit and talking about song ideas but it won't be until after V Festival that we start doing any work on the new album. With the stress levels of touring for years and years it takes a while to wind down when you have nothing to do, so when you eventually relax it's quite a nice feeling"

So in addition to V you're playing one outdoor show in Ireland, aren't you?

"Yeah, I wanted to do a nice outdoor festival in Ireland because the last time we played there, at the Oxegen Festival, it rained contianually. We'll be playing to 20,000 people, so it's not like it's a warm up for V, it'll be a proper show. And then that's it for the year"

Do you see your set at the summer shows changing radically from the set you were playing at Wembley last summer?

"Well, it definitely won't be Wembley Part two. We'll probably bring pack some old songs and play some covers... Maybe even a new song or two as there'll definitely be bits and pieces ready"

How do you strike the balance between giving people what they want and satisfying your own creativity at a Festival?

"That's a question that applies to the whole idea of being in a band. We have a more natural desire to please a crowd than perhaps certain other bands: if I was watching us I'd wanna see us play the riff at the end of Knights of Cydonia every time, so there's no way that's ever gonna be dropped from the set. What pleases us tends to please the fans, and I can't understand why any band wouldn't want to be making a festival crowd happy"

Have you got anything planned personally this summer?

"My mum has moved back to Devon now, and I've got a place down there, not too far from where Chris [Wolstenholme, bassist] lives, so I've been going back there a bit for the first time in years. We're thinking of doing some work down there, actually, going back to our roots. It's quite comical when the three of us drive around together, checking out all the old places we used to hang out in Teignmouth and how different we feel now but also how in some was we feel the same as when we were young."

Is there a statue of the three of you at the entrance to Teignmouth yet?

"Not yet. I think the council were debating adding our name to some signs, 'Teingmouth: Home of Muse' but apparently we got rejected because some of the councillors were worried that our rock 'n' roll reputation might not be good for the town. I'm hoping if we clean up our act we'll manage it in the future."
