Information

This was Bellamy's first guitar to feature an X-Y Midi Pad, able to control a number of Midi devices (incl. the Korg Kaoss Pad and a Digitech Whammy). This feature has since been included in many of Bellamy's guitars such as the Manson Red Glitter and the Manson Black Midi. The guitar had a pair of hot P90's in the bridge position, and was the first of the Matt's custom Mansons to have this configuration. This layout was later also featured on the Manson Mirror Kaoss and on the Manson Doubleneck.

Although it is officially named as "M1D1 Black"[1] it is better known to fans as "Kaoss Manson". The name was derived from a customer confusing the term "MIDI" for "M1D1"

This guitar is featured in music videos for "Invincible", "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)" and the alternative video version of " Supermassive Black Hole" (watch). It can also be seen in the Making of Uprising video.

Touring

The M1D1 Black made its live debut at Radio 1's Big Weekend on May 13th, 2006. It was primarily used for songs that require standard tuning and sometimes the use of the Kaoss pad - though there were multiple exceptions to this rule. The guitar was Matt's most commonly used guitar during The Resistance Tour, and was used until the end of said tour in August 2011. It was replaced with the Manson M1D1 Gloss Black in 2012.

Despite being retired from live use since 2011, the guitar was apparently used by Matt as a warm-up guitar during The 2nd Law Tour, and was also used in the studio while recording Drones.
